Compliant food waste solutions for the healthcare sector
We’re experienced in helping large-scale Hospitals and Care Homes find a compliant solution for their food waste disposal needs – reducing their waste volumes, off-site costs, and carbon footprint in the process.
We understand budgets are tight for Healthcare organisations, and any expenditure must not only demonstrate significant return on investment but also adhere to the requirements of a highly regulated industry.
In 2023, the new Environment Act will be coming into effect in England – stipulating that all Hospitals and Care Homes that produce food waste as part of their daily routine will have to separate this stream from their general waste, and are no longer allowed send organic material to sewer, landfill, or for incineration.
Instead, sites are allowed to use either specialist drying or dewatering equipment to help them reduce the amount of food waste they send off site, or use an in-vessel composting system to recycle the food waste compliantly on the premises.
With organic waste having a high moisture content – up to 98% – it can be challenging for healthcare organisations to store as well as expensive to dispose of via off-site collection methods.
By decreasing the volume of waste, this can save organisations thousands of pounds per year in disposal fees and reducing transport related carbon emissions in the process.
Together with NHS decision-makers, we’ve designed and installed compliant on-site food waste reduction and recycling solutions developed specifically for the Healthcare industry.
